Newmont reshapes executive team

Newmont has made several appointments to its executive leadership team, effective July 1. Brian Tabolt has been named chief financial officer, Mark Rodgers, chief operating officer, and David Thornton, chief technical officer.

In addition, David Fry, who currently serves as group head, Global Projects, has been promoted to executive vice president, Project Development, reflecting the importance of disciplined project development and execution as Newmont advances its highest-return growth opportunities.

Tabolt, who most recently served as Newmont’s chief accounting officer and group head, Finance, brings over 20 years of expertise to lead the global finance organization. Since joining Newmont in 2021, he has held a series of strategic leadership roles that reflect his contributions to strengthening financial oversight and discipline, as well as the evolution of capital allocation and integrated planning across the business.

As COO, Rodgers will lead Newmont’s operating portfolio, strengthening alignment across the company’s 12 operating sites and its health, safety, security and environment work. He currently serves as managing director, Africa and Asia Pacific at Newmont. He joined the company in 2020 and has held a series of senior leadership roles across multiple regions.

With more than 25 years of mining experience, Thornton will serve as Newmont’s CTO, where he will lead the company’s Technical Services function, including exploration, asset management, processing, mine planning and digital. He currently serves as managing director, Americas. He joined Newmont in 2016 and has held technical roles across surface and underground operations. 

Fry brings significant international project delivery experience across mining, energy and infrastructure. Before joining Newmont, he served as managing director, Projects at Rio Tinto, where he led a major portfolio of projects across the Asia-Pacific region.
